If wiggling the key works, it means the teeth on the key are too worn to properly engage the pins. Replace the key as soon as possible if this works before the key stops working entirely.

Can a switch or kill switch shut the engine off?

It is a 2001 model year if that matters. Re: switch or kill switch will not shut engine off… If I am thinking correctly, you should have a black wire with a yellow tracer, going to the power pack. That is the ground circut for the ignition system.
