What happens when you overfill DEF tank?
The main reason not to overfill is because def fluid will freeze as it is mostly water. If the tank is overfull and freezes it could crack and leak. I usually recommend waiting until the first message comes on and then adding 3.5 gallons or so.
Can you drive without DEF?
If you decide to ignore it, at the point where you run out of DEF, the light will glow solid red. It gets worse. If you ignore the solid red, your vehicle speed will be reduced to a snail’s pace – 5 miles per hour – until you top up the DEF tank. The DEF warning light can also indicate contaminated fuel.
How often do I put DEF?
DEF is consumed at a rate of about 2-3% relative to the amount of fuel you are using. This means between 1.2 and 2.0 gallons of DEF will be required for a vehicle with a 65-gallon gas tank. If you have a five-gallon DEF tank, DEF should be replaced every third or fourth time you fill up.
Is the Def gauge empty or is the tank full?
DEF gauge reads empty, tank is full. Engine light is on. Code NOX malfunction data valid but higher than normal. I suspect the DEF level sending unit. Any tests to perform to validate my prognosis?
What to do if Def gauge reading is wrong?
1. Check to see if there is DEF in the tank. If the tank is not empty, drain the tank. On vehicles with A04-27943-000 and A04-27943-001 tanks, disconnect the DEF line from the DEF outlet port at bottom of the tank, and let the DEF drain into the drain pan.
Why is low Def light on but tank is full?
On the way home from the shop I did a test drive. Shortly after picking the truck up it started an active regen and about 5 minutes later the low DEF indicator lamp came on. The gauge shows the truck is full and I also topped off the DEF fluid hoping that that would solve the problem but I have not had any luck.
How does Def reset work on Ford PowerStroke diesel?
There is a pipe that goes down into the DPF tank with 2 metal rods (sensors) on it. One goes down to about the 2 gal mark (Low DPF) and the other is about at the 4 gal area. I discovered this when I pulled my tank off. Just put 5 gals in and it should reset.
