On my 2006 it had a scharader valve core like your 2008 and i removed it before connecting my pressure gauge. Then you need to run the engine through it’s range. It should hold right at 39 PSI. If not the pump is bad and I suspect that is what you are going to find out. Rule the gauge issue out first.

Except for the gas gauge sender portion, these principles and/or procedures don’t apply to carburetor machines. Airtex E8198 pump only – this is the one I’m removing because it was not doing well in the warmer fuel in the tank. NFP P72118, pump comes with strainer, NAPA on the box but made by Carter as P72118.
