My theory (and I do not know this for sure..) is that normal injectors do not have to be coded for, however, high pressure/direct injection injectors do need to be coded for (or calibrated for really) You should also keep in mind that BMW changed the injectors at some point, and if you have the old ones you can’t just change one to a new one.
