Why does my AC turn on when I turn on my defrost?
Your air conditioner (whether it’s set to cold or hot) condenses the moisture out of the air into water. The system then pumps dry air into the car. When you turn on the defroster, it pumps dry air up toward the windshield.

How to get the AC mode selector out of defrost?
You will need to take a few trim panels off to get to the mode actuator. Remove upper dash panel above shelf (the one with the passenger side vent) – Pops out. Start on right hand side. Remove the five screws in the shelf area (three on top. two on bottom) and remove shelf. Remove kick panel under the glove box. Pops out.
