Does a 2002 Honda CR-V have a timing chain?
Between 1997 and 2001 Honda CRV was equipped with a timing belt under the hood. However, starting in the 2002 model year, Honda swapped out the timing belt in favour of the much more durable timing chain. To this day the CRV is still made with a timing chain.

All slow/no-start issues are gone now – new starter is a bit noisy, but it runs like a sewing machine at full RPM – while old one was whining like an old man, before it died… from what I also found out, mileage may not matter as much as the age.

Is the Honda CRV good for 4 people?
The engine is strong and it accelerates nicely even with 4 people in the CRV. The downside is the gas mileage, not as good as an Accord of similar vintage and engine size but the AWD does have a rear-differential so you must expect that feature will affect mileage in any truck.
