Is the C-13 Pete engine a bad engine?
I’ve got 12 Petes with the same EPA 07 C-13 430 HP/1650 ft/lb. No major problems to date, except some regen issues. The dealer replaced the ARD heads to an updated version which cured the issue. The motors only have 250K on them so we’re getting ready to start replacing DPFs.
Is the C13 cat engine slow to wind up?
A 13 spd. would be my choice behind any engine. The c13 is slow to wind up but I found that if you just crack the throtle after a gear change and wait a second or two for turbo spool-up then squeeze on the pedal it really comes to life. If all you do is shift and mash then it wont pull or get any mileage.

Which is better a C12 or C13 cat?
The turbos are horribly slow to kick in, and if your truck isn’t warmed up beyond about 160 degrees good luck getting a heavy load moving. The C12 was a much better motor. New Cat C13’s, even pre 2007, are only designed for fuel mileage. So screw it if it takes your truck 5 minutes just to get up to 65 MPH.

Which is better the C13 or the C15?
The C13 does a good job, especially in tanker ( Wayne Transports, Kane Transports) and flat bed operations like Decker. “B50” life to overhaul according to Cat is 1,000,000 miles with proper maintenance ( same as the C15). Mpg is generally a little better than the C15 ( Smaller horse eats less hay). What’s your application? How important is mpg?
Is there a charge for cat trouble codes?
There is no charge for this service, but standard message and data rates may apply. When I brought the truck new I got a laminated page with all the codes on it for the C12-15-16 and the E I will try and find it and post it on here later today.
Is the C-12 a hell of a motor?
The c-12 is a hell of a motor. We still have a couple 2000 FLD 120s for city use that have over 870K w/o any sort of rebuild or major motor work. I will che k the shaft play thanks.
How often does the cat cooling fan cycle?
The fan cycles off and on about every 3 minutes. 3 on; 3 off. It does this all the time. Weather idling, road speeds, or A/C on or off. Engine temp never goes above 190*. Anyone have any ideas what is causing this?

The air solenoid on the firewall has no power and the manual rocker swich has power only on one side “the yellow/orange wire”.
Why does my engine fan keep coming on when the a / C is off?
You could have a bad high press switch on the A/C. Thats the swtich that will turn the fan on when the A/C is on and say your not moving to get air flow. Unplug the swtich and put a jumper wire on it and if the fan stops you found your porblem. They can go bad and make the fan stay on even with the A/C off.
