Is the power steering on my Silverado working?
4 years later… Thank God for this place…..My 03 Silverado is acting up. Power Steering Fluid level is fine, hard to turn and it’s weak at low rpm/idle situations… but only when the steering was turned a bit. Seems to act up more when making a slow, low idle, left turn.
Why does power steering turn one way but hard to turn the other way?
Power steering turns one way but hard to turn the other way. Gearbox or power steering pump problem? Can easily change both but need to be certain. I think its the gear box.

Where does power steering fluid go in a 1500?
The 1500has seperate brake fluid and seperate power steering fluid. reservoir ps fluid goes to gear box. brake fluid lines go to brakes. 2500 have power boost. A hydro booster runs off the power steering fluid system. So a hose goes from the ps cooler or gear box and to the booster, then a return line runs from the booster back to the ps pump.

Can you turn the steering wheel to the right?
– With engine at idle could steer with steering wheel in both directions with equal ease. – Lowered front to the gound and could not turn steering wheel to the right without extreme pulling effort. I have replaced the power steering pump with a rebuilt unit and issue did not change. also the front steering has been greased every 5k-10k miles.
Is the power steering working at 3000 rpm?
Noticed that when I drove it that the power steering started working when I was running the motor above 3000 RPM’s below 3000 there is no power. Also noticed that the pump is making a significant whine in the upper RPM range.

What was the steering column lock on a 2002 Chevy Silverado?
Set the front wheels in the straight ahead position. Notice: On the 2002 and later model year vehicles, the steering column LOCK was removed from the steering column. It is critical that the J 42640 – Steering column Anti-Rotation Pin is used when servicing steering columns on 2002 and later model year vehicles.
