Why is my Cummins fuel pump not working?
Click to expand… there is a fuse & a relay on the drivers side in the engine harness. Fuse is a spade type under a cover should be near the intake elbow. the relay should be close by. I have seen the pumps fail & cause the fuse to blow. the pump will run if powered by an alternate source yet will draw too many amps.

Where is the lift pump on a Cummins?
Click to expand… 04 peterbilt 379 as far as engine serial, where I’d that located? Drivers side of motor will have a tag top left with serial number. I think there’s a relay for the lift pump on the side of motor.
Where is the primer pump on my ISX?
Had the same issue on my 2014 Pete with the ISX. Mine has two relays in that same location. One that was easy to find was for my fuel heater in the filter assembly on the frame. The one for the primer pump was well hidden behind some wiring nearby. Took some searching until I found it.
What did I do when my ISX wouldn’t start?
Turns out it was the primer pump, apparantly the motor still worked, but the pump part had stopped working. Ended up pulling the line off the primer pump inlet and running a hose into a bucket with fuel. Turned the key on and started the pump.

RE: ISX will not start. I think the ecm reset itself after you cut power to the ecm when you switched fuses. Check your fuel pressure while cranking the engine over and see where your at. I knew a guy who had the same problem….except the engine wouldnt start at all.

If I ease on the throttle and hold it at maybe 50% or less the truck accelerates much better and the measured rail psi is much closer to the commanded psi. I parked the truck and ran the 30 second fuel leak down test and it passed easily. I watched the PSI for over 10 minutes and it actually didn’t drop much at all during that time frame.

Apparently, the issue is high pressure fuel / on the lines. When idling, the fuel pressure gauge goes all the way up and you feel the engine running rough. I replaced the fuel pump about 2 years ago, bought directly at Cummins. Fuel pump 2872399.
