Which is better the ZC SOHC or the DOHC?

Which is better the ZC SOHC or the DOHC?

The SOHC ZC is basically a D16A6 with a hotter camshaft that has more intake-exhaust overlap than the USDM engine. If you’re looking for just an engine swap and then nothing else, go with the DOHC ZC. It can be upgraded, but finding parts for it is getting harder all the time.

What’s the difference between civic SOHC and ZC headers?

” The scoop on the headers, is that while the bolt pattern for the Civic SOHC engines and the ZC engines are identical, the port pattern is not. The ZC engine has the ports shifted almost 3 mm (appx 1/8″). In real terms, this means that when you use the SOHC header, the ports do not align properly.

Can you swap a DX for a Si?

The swap can use your existing wiring harness if you have an SI, if you have a DX then minor modification is necessary. You can use the SI or DX transmissions, they both bolt up. You can also use the SI or DX flywheel. The engine only adds about twenty-five pounds to the front of the car, so your steering and suspension should be the same.

How are the ports shifted on a Honda ZC?

The ZC engine has the ports shifted almost 3 mm (appx 1/8″). In real terms, this means that when you use the SOHC header, the ports do not align properly. The exiting exhaust gases literally run into one edge of the misaligned header flange. You can see this by holding the steel exhaust gasket from the ZC engine up to the DC header.

Can a SOHC head fit a Z6 manifold?

Only a sohc head will fit a sohc block. No dohc heads on sohc blocks. The zc and z6 are pretty similar. And yes the manifold will fit. Get your dermal out you have to open up the ports. Use the exhaust manifold gasket from the zc to match them. The intake manifold will not for without a zcspeed adapter plate.

Is the Honda ZC out of the car?

OH AND ALSO, importantly, the zc is in the car, needs a rebuild and the z6 is out of the car. How different are the blocks? Are any internals compatible?

Is the SOHC ZC from a CRX Si?

I think the SOHC ZC is from an 89-91 CRX Si, but I’m not positive on that. I bet the distributor is the problem but before you go out and get another distrib, you might wanna wait till someone else w/ more knowledge and tells you what they think. Are you getting a check engine light? Meaning are you throwing any codes, namely 9-4-15 any of these?

Is the Honda ZC engine a good swap?

There is not a lot of interest in these (SOHC or DOHC) engines I am afraid, because the B-series VTEC motors bolt right in the 92 up Civics. The ZC does make a good swap in the lowly, underpowered CX or VX, but only with the EX, Si or ZC transmission, otherwise I don’t recommend them.

When was the first year of the ZC?

ZC’s were first offered in Civic’s and Integra’s in 1985 and were still being manufactured in vehicles up until 2001. The first Generation ZC’s were offered from 1985 through 1987. These engines can be found in 85-87 JDM Civic’s and JDM CRX Si’s and were very similar to the 1986-1987 US Integra engine.

What’s the difference between SOHC and DOHC ZC engines?

There are both SOHC and DOHC ZC engines. The non-VTEC SOHC ZC is similar to the D16A6 (’91–’96) and D16Y4 (’96–2000) engine, but with more aggressive cam timing. The SOHC VTEC ZC is similar to the D16Z6 (’91–’96). The DOHC ZC is similar to the D16A1, D16A3, D16A8, D16A9 and D16Z5 engines.
