How much do you earn at Camp America?
As a first year applicant you can expect to earn between $800-$1350 from your placement. Due to recent changes to the tax laws in the U.S. all J1 participants will now have taxes deducted from their pocket money and be required to complete a US Tax Return form after their return to their home county.
Is Camp America worth doing?
Amazing experience Yes you don’t get paid much, yes you pay more to go than you get paid there but it’s worth it. Working with so many different kids from all sorts of life is amazing. There’s not much time off as well but it’s still worth it.

No definitely not. Camp wouldnt work if all the counsellors were 18 and 19! You need the older more experienced counsellors as well as the younger newbies. I’m 23 this yr and its my 5th summer.

We are allowed phones and cameras in the staff areas when off duty, but not allowed an photos of kids, or of the camp even when there is no kids during session.

If you are at a camp where the campers stay overnight, you will normally be given a period off during the day to have some time to relax. Obviously there always needs to be staff working, so you’ll work on a rota basis with the other Counsellors. You’ll also have certain evenings off and normally 1 full day off a week.

34 Can I apply with a friend? No, sorry, Camp America does not accept joint applications. This is because the camps need their staff to be flexible and act independently. Each placement of on an applicant to camp is made individually based on your skills, experience and interests as well as the dates you’re able to go.

Is there an age limit on Camp America?
You must be 18 years or over before the 1st June of the summer you want to take part in. This is due to visa and insurance regulations that we must strictly follow. You can still start your application and be interviewed before you turn 18 though!
