The dead giveaway would be a full vehicle scan with an uplevel scantool and if there are multiple history codes for loss of communication between the modules. Other problems I have seen is a corroded connector on the ABS module, corroded wiring in the rocker sill harness, rodent damage, and even faulty radios.

Of course they couldn’t read it with a scanner when it wasn’t working, there was no communication on the Class2 data line. This isn’t something you’re going to fix poking and prodding, and you may even do more damage.

Why are the lights on my 05 LLY not working?
Hey guys so on my 05 lly the 4×4 is acting up. For awhile it would ocassionally give me the Service 4wd message and the lights on the switch would go out. Then it would come back.
Are there any lights on my Silverado 4WD?
So I switched into 4×4 and then the light on the switch died.. Drove for a few minutes, then came to a red light and it lurched, clunked, and went back into 2wd all by itself. Last time I read codes there was nothing, but I’ll try agian today.
