Why is my cruise control not working on my Silverado?
The cruise control on my 2009 Silverado would not work at times. There were a few posts saying the brake lights would stick on causing the cruise not to work, but my brake lights worked fine.
What was the problem with my cruise control?
The problem with the cruise control was the LED lights I installed. I put the stock incadecent lights back in and the brake unit on the trailer works correct and the cruise works. Never thought of the lights because I didn’t use cruise until I started traveling which was a while after I installed the LEDs.

In my new to me 2008 Silverado 1500, cruise control is not working. The light will go on at the cruise button on the steering wheel but it will not engage when pressing the set button nor does the cruise indicator light show on the dash. I first assumed it was because I replaced the 3rd brake lights with LEDs.

The switches are made in such a way that it is prudent to replace the switch rather than try to take it apart and replace the LED. The switches are relatively inexpensive and are very easy to replace.

The problem with my truck is the brake lights come on when I hit the brakes but then go off and won’t come back on until I either push the brakes down harder, or release the brakes and press them again.

My truck occasionally is turning over 2 or 3 times and then starting and resets the clock. If the mechanic finds what the problem is I will let everyone know if I don’t get it fixed tonight which is doubtful. The wire is located just to the left of the brake pedal.

Inside the switch there is a rotating cam that activates the switch. When pressure is applied to the brake, it rotates. Mine had worn to the point it was not rotating enough to activate the contacts. New switch fixed it. Parts manager said this is a BIG problem and they keep LOTS of those switches on hand.
