Why is my gas odometer not working?
An inaccurate fuel tank reading is most commonly caused by the sending system which reads the fuel tank level and sends the reading to the gauge. Issues can also stem from a bad gauge, blown fuses, or corroded wiring. You can self-test all of these parts at home with a few tools.
Can a gas gauge be fixed?
Sometimes the fix can be as simple as changing an instrument cluster fuse. Your fuel sending unit may come separately from your new fuel pump in the box.
What do I do if my gas gauge is not working?
In most cases, to gain access to the fuel tank sending unit mount / fuel pump mounting hole, you’ll need to drop the gas tank down. Be sure to do this when there is either minimal gas in the vehicle, or it’s been siphoned out.

Why does my gas gauge read high when the tank is full?
A functioning sending unit will have a high resistance when the tank is full and a low resistance when the tank is empty. If the gauge reads higher than it should, make sure the wire attached to the electrical terminal on the tank sending unit is making a good ground connection.
Why does my car’s fuel gauge keep resetting?
Electronic and software malfunctions may cause the fuel gauge in your automobile to inaccurately measure or display the amount of fuel remaining in the gas tank. If this happens, reset your fuel gauge. Each make and model of car has its own specific instructions on how to reset the fuel gauge, but the process is basically the same.
