When did the latch stop working on my Acadia?
Just ran into the same issue with my 2008 Acadia where the latch stopped working ( the power lift and close hasn’t worked for a year ) and after replacing the power latch, the power lift/ close is working again also! Just a couple updates: My old latch part# was 13502698 which was superseded by 13581405.

The rear (power) lift gate will not open. When the button is pushed the latch will open releasing the door but then it pulls back in and does the the same thing over. When you manually open the gate and push the button to close it the latch starts clicking and then just a whining grinding noise.

What to do if power lift gate does not work?
You can now pull the plastic body panel off the inside of the gate. It will require you to pull hard, be careful to disconnect the two electrical harnesses near the latch mechanism before removing the panel completely from the car. Assemble in the opposite order. What to do if your lift gate won’t open?
23 people found this helpful. If your lift gate won’t open and it’s locked down, there is a way to get it open. You will notice a small little ring on the panel that covers the center lock. It’s slightly offset from center a few inches up from the bottom.

Could be a failure of one of the obstruction detection sensors. Someone with a scan tool and the proper software would likely be able to identify which one is causing the problem. cold weather will make weak lift gate struts– even weaker/slower. It may be cold enough- the strut is weak and the liftgate motor- find the door too heavy- and reverses.
