Do you need a compression release on a Harley Davidson?

My question is do i need to install a compression release into the heads because that seems like a big ordeal to go through. or get the better starter from Harley that says 15% more cranking power. or just throw it together and see what happens and then dismantle if needed.

Click to expand… A buddy of mine has em on his SE 110 and a S&S 124, both of which occasionally don’t operate correctly and it kicks back on the starter and makes an awful noise! S&S I belive sells cams with comp releases now ive seen em in action they seem to work well .

Click to expand… If you remove the heads you’ll need to replace the base seals , you surely don’t want it leaking at the bases after you’ve got the engine all back together . Have the comp. releases installed over the starter . You might consider installing the 10/84 ring and pinion gear set to give your stock starter some extra oomph .
