Do you need a good battery for a Duramax?

Duramax has launched many engines specially manufactured to suit the dynamic requirements of various vehicles. Having a healthy and appropriate battery is necessary to support heavy-duty diesel engines like Duramax.

What are cold cranking amps on Duramax battery?

Determine the temperature tolerance rate of the battery before making the purchase. Cold Cranking Amps are the number of amperes a battery at 0 degrees Fahrenheit can discharge for 30 seconds while sustaining 1.2 volts per cell. Cold weather can drain the charge, thus it is essential to determine the CCA ratings of the battery.

Is there a crank fuse on a Duramax?

Batteries are hot. You can take a power probe and shoot 12v to starter solenoid wire and it will crank and run fine. I traced that wire back to the fuse panel under the hood on the driver’s side. There is a CRANK fuse as well as a starter relay in that panel.

What causes a Duramax battery to wear out?

Any difference between the batteries’ open-circuit voltage will induce current from the one with the higher voltage to the other one, which will prematurely wear out the higher-voltage (newer) battery. Just happened to me. Passenger side was fried but the other was carrying it.

Which is the first battery to go bad?

Always 1 that goes bad first. Not sure if it’s been said already but always replace the batteries in pairs, even if one of them passes a load test. Any difference between the batteries’ open-circuit voltage will induce current from the one with the higher voltage to the other one, which will prematurely wear out the higher-voltage (newer) battery.

How much does it cost to replace a Duracell battery?

Thank you all for the very helpful information. Did two Duracell 78’s yesterday.. not bad, maybe 30 minutes. 800 CCA and $233 for both out the door at Sam’s Club. 3 year replacement which is about what we get here in SW AZ… I am thinking it is time to be proactive and replace my original batteries before I get stuck in the boonies.
