Since my Duramax was less than 6 months old it began to have problems. First with dash warnings of “Exhaust Fluid Quality Poor See Owners Manual Now”. This occurred with the DEF tank 3/4 full with new factory Chevy DEF. The Chevy mechanics at the time didn’t really understand the whole DEF system and had my truck for more than a week.

Why is my DPF not working on my Chevy Duramax?
Click to expand… It might be time to highway trip it for 30 minutes 1 way and 30 back and see what it does. Short tripping these trucks will clog that DPF up quicker than normal and I think some of the sensors don’t work 100% until the truck is hot.

The local Chevy dealer then borrowed a DEF testing device from another local dealer to confirm that the DEF was actually OK. Then they replaced the DEF tank, tank sensors, NOX sensors, and forced the truck to go into regeneration mode to burn the soot out of the exhaust filter.

How does the DEF tank work on a Duramax?
The manual indicates that the engine must off when the fluid is added for it to recognise it (I think start-up triggers the treuck to check the level in the def tank). usage. As the exhaust fluid level the Driver Information Center (DIC).
When did my GMC Duramax go low on Def?
Truck gave me a “Service DEF” warning about 3,400 miles into the trip. No way it could be low on DEF, right? It gave NO warnings about DEF range, etc, as a 2011 should.
