How do you time an injection pump?
If you decide to alter the fuel injection pump, you’ll need to:
- Use a socket wrench on the front camshaft bolt to hand-turn the engine clockwise until the first cylinder is at TDC.
- Both the intake and exhaust valves should be closed, and the TDC mark should be aligned.

How to change the timing on a fuel injection pump?
Remove the fuel injection pump timing cover. Rotate the fuel injection pump driveshaft in the direction of pump rotation to align the timing line on the weight retainer hub with the line on the cam ring. Position the fuel injection driveshaft locking key plate in the locked position.
What should I Set my injection pump to?
Recently reset mine to about 1.09 along with setting valve clearances. Had a bit of trouble measuring and setting the pump trying to do it the cheapo way. Magnetic stand, dial gauge with a nail for an extension… Made a Huge difference from the ~1.25 ish it was at before hand.

Do you have to measure the timing of a pump?
Pumps all wear differently and timing will over time change anyways, even rebuilt ones from the same builder will be ever so slightly different in there delivery setups so you don’t need to be dead on with a specific measurement.
