The wires can be connected to the battery using electrical tape to secure them in place; for a more secure and professional connection, though, first connect the wires to automotive battery terminals and then secure the terminals to the battery posts.

Is it possible to charge a trailer battery?

You are more than welcome to try to charge your trailer battery straight off of the 12V power from your vehicle, but in our experience there is enough power lost that you’ll only get a trickle charge on the trailer battery.

What kind of power do trailer lights need?

With two wires extending from trailer lights, the wires are ready for connection to a power source. Since the lights are designed to work on a 12-volt automotive system, the ideal power source is a 12-volt car battery available from any local automotive or chain retail store.

Can a trailer battery be charged by a diode?

You should note that this won’t charge a dead battery, but it will keep the battery topped off when you are towing the trailer. A diode wouldn’t do that – they are just used to keep the trailer wiring from backfeeding to the tow vehicle wiring (as in if the trailer wiring shorts out it won’t damage the vehicle).

When do you charge the batteries in a RV?

Why does my GMC Duramax have no power to trailer?

Turned out that upon closer inspection the 40A fuse for Stud#1 was blown. It looked fine from the top but when I pulled it out it was no good. If it is hooked up and did blow a fuse it would be one of the square ones furthest inboard that protects the #1 post. Your slide must have overloaded the fuse. Mine is a 40 amp if I remember correctly.
