How much DEF does a Duramax use?

How much DEF does a Duramax use?

The LML Duramax is equipped with a SCR system that requires the use of DEF (diesel exhaust fluid). DEF is injected into the exhaust stream where a chemical reaction occurs that reduces NOx emissions. The DEF tank is approximately 5 gallons (18.9 liters).

Why does my Silverado use so much Def?

As a result, drivers could have an initial impression that the vehicle consumes an excessive amount of DEF. A new electronic DEF gauge on 2020 Silverado and Sierra models estimates how much fluid remains in the tank. The amount of DEF consumed also is a function of how hard the engine is working, or engine load.

What happens when a Duramax goes to Def?

When it gets to DEF Empty, the message changes to 500 miles to speed 65 mph speed restriction. This is significant, because it doesn’t rely on the ‘estimate’ of how much is in the tank, and how many miles of range it ‘thinks’ you have until empty.

What’s the speed limit on a Duramax Silverado?

The messages alternate every 5 seconds until acknowledged by the driver; however, the Speed Limited to 6 km/h (4 mph), remains displayed on the DIC. The DEF Indicator in the instrument panel flashes continuously. Vehicle speed is limited to 6 km/h (4 mph) maximum.

What’s the Def indicator on a Silverado Sierra?

The messages alternate every 5 seconds until acknowledged by the driver; however, the 89 km/h (55 mph) Max Speed on Restart, remains displayed on the DIC. The DEF Indicator in the instrument panel is illuminated. Warning Level 2 automatically advances to Warning Level 3 at the next ignition cycle.

What’s the Def usage ratio on a Duramax 3.0?

DEF usage is a % of fuel used. Pretty close to what you’ve used. I haven’t seen a published DEF to fuel ratio for the 3.0, but GM did publish an ‘expected’ number for the LML back in when it was introduced in 2010 for the 2011 model year. iirc, they suggested to expect 1.5 to 1.75 %.
