How to adjust the tailgate on a GM Truck?
TAILGATE ADJUSTMENT TIPS 1 Loosen 2 Install 3 Hand-tighten. Close the tailgate and adjust for fit and flushness, both up-down and fore-aft. Open the tailgate and tighten the bolts. 4 Open and close. Open the tailgate and loosen both strikers about 1/3 to 1/2 of a turn, enough for striker movement without losing the nut.
Why is the tail gate not latching on my Chevy 2500HD?
I have a 2500HD and the tail gate just recently started not to latch when I close it. It used to latch really easily, no slamming just push it closed now I really gotta slam it to get it to latch. I tried lubing the latches but still not working. Anyone run across this and how did you remedy the issue? Lebanon. WI VERY common.

The outside of the tailgate has those little plastic pieces like mentioned before….I just used some wd-40, moved those plastic pieces back into place with a regular screw driver and works fine now. A quick shot of WD ever few months helps. Thanks for all the replies, I will look at it tonight and lubed it up good and see how it goes.

How do you remove the tailgate on a Chevy Silverado?
Open the truck’s tailgate. Detach the retaining cables by lifting their spring retainers upward and sliding their cables off the pins. Remove the bolt at the tailgate’s lower right hinge for a 2001 Silverado or later. Lower the tailgate to where its hinge pocket on the right side aligns with the hinge pin and can be disconnected.
