Should there be play in my transfer case?

There really shouldn’t be any play in the shaft that comes out of the transfer case that the U-joint is bolted into. The play/wear is what is making the seal leak.

Why is my drive shaft leaking in my transfer case?

Not much to changing a seal but without changing the bushing in the rear of the t-case housing you will probably have a leak again soon. What kind of oil to put in transfer case?

Also, noticed that while pushing on the drive shaft, the whole transfer case moves. Again, it’s minimal, but I certainly did see the entire unit move. Transfer case oil was changed at 42K for the first time. I put Dex III in it through the normal fill hole (not through the speed sensor). I check the oil yesterday and it was full at the fill hole.

How can I replace the bushing on my transfer case?

The bushing can be replaced by dropping the driveline and using a special GM tool to pull it out of the case. It’s either that or splitting the case and driving it out. Not fun either way. If you take the case out a transmission shop won’t charge much to replace the bushing.
