Why does my GM Truck start so cold?
Look up piston slap to study it more its mostly from the short piston skirts that allow the piston to rock around more when cold. Also different oils help, i run moble 1 truck 5w30 in my truck with 116k on it. I have heard that gm top end cleaner and the 3m kits work well.

If the flow/pressure increased when the truck started that means that you are sucking fluid from the pan therefore the pump is working. That means that the problem is most likely in the valve body. When it warms up there is a 1/4″ npt tap on the drivers side that you can tie a cheap gauge into to see you line pressure.

I have the same problem with the stalling at a stop and low idle. It idles at around 400rpm when warm. It runs fine when cold. When I go from 15 mph to a stop it will stall about 50% of the time. The other times it will recover after the tach drops to almost “0”. I have a 2001 Sierra 1500 with the 5.3 V8.

If they are damaged or corroded badly, they can prevent proper amperage draw for the starter. Since you said it starts with jumper cables, it is most likely a bad battery. As CharlieRB pointed out, just because the lights come on doesn’t mean the battery is ok.

Why is my Chevy Silverado 1500 not starting?
However, today, when the truck will crank and start, the antitheft icon goes off after a few seconds with the key on and stays off while the truck is running. It never flashed either today or yesterday though. And I don’t know if the antitheft system disables cranking or starting or both.

Try turning your key to the run position a few times (with out starting). Then try to start it. If it starts, sounds like what mine did. I replaced the fuel pump assembly and that fixed the problems. Very common problem.
How often does my GMC Truck turn over?
So far this has been the case pretty much every time i am starting the truck cold. I’ll try to start it and it will turn over for about 3-4 seconds (have tried a bit longer, still no go) then i’ll stop and try to start it again, and the second time it fires right up.
