A new function has been added to the IDS tool to clean diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) injectors on 2011-2016 6.7L Superdutys. Without removing the injector from the exhaust system, the tool automatically cleans crystalized DEF that forms inside the injector preventing proper function of the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system.
What happens when you clean a Def injector?
Once DEF leaves the injector, exhaust heat will evaporate some of the water away and precipitate urea around the nozzle, which is what we see. I would also guess that any urea crystals that were in the direct path of the injected DEF would be re-dissolved. IMO, this business of cleaning the DEF injector is just busy work.
