Is it bad for your car to sit idle with AC on?

Is it bad for your car to sit idle with AC on?

It’s not a great practice. But setting my environmental preferences aside, you can let any car idle with the AC on for a long time without doing any harm. As long as the cooling system is working properly, you should be able to sit in any modern car you buy and let it idle indefinitely.

How long can a car sit idle with AC on?

Most modern vehicles can handle the A/C being on for 30 minutes without any adverse effects.

Why does my engine stall when I turn on the AC?

Like many parts of your vehicle, the air conditioning system takes its power from the engine. It’s understandable that due to this, there may be significant pressure on the engine. More specifically, it may be too low to run the A/C and hence it stalls when turned on.

Why does my car idle rough with AC on?

A rough idle when the air conditioning is on may be caused by: A faulty or dirty IAC valve. A dirty throttle body. A faulty cooling or condenser fan.

What causes a car to stall at idle?

The way diesel engines produce power is different from gasoline engines. Every time the injectors push fuel and air into the chamber, the spark plugs deliver the electrical current. This keeps the engine running. If you have a weak or poor quality spark plug, then it is possible that it will lead to car stalling.

Why does my car idle when the AC is on?

It also helps increase engine speed when an extra load is placed on the engine, for example, when you turn on the AC or defrost system. However, a faulty or restricted IAC valve may keep the engine idle speed from increasing when it needs to.

Can a bad air control valve cause an engine to stall?

Sometimes the engine stalling will happen on its own while other times, increasing the load on the engine will cause it to stall. For example, if you turn on your heater or air conditioner when you have a bad idle air control valve, then your engine will probably stall immediately afterward.

When does an idle air control valve malfunction?

As soon as you start your car, the idle air control valve will immediately malfunction. If you happen to be away from home and this happens, the stalling will happen every couple of minutes in the beginning. You should be able to make it to the nearest mechanic in time before the engine stalls completely.
