The Roundhouse reopened in June 2006 with an explosive new show, Fuerzabruta . It was the culmination of more than a decade’s hard work led by philanthropist Sir Torquil Norman.

What was the roundhouse used for?
The Roundhouse was built in 1846-7 as a shed for stabling and servicing goods locomotives. The structural form of the Roundhouse, 160ft (49m) in diameter, was influenced by the limited space on the north side of the yard.
Who has played at the Roundhouse?
The likes of The Doors, Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix all played legendary shows in our space. A decade later, a new generation of artists took to the stage as the punk movement gathered momentum – The Ramones, The Damned, The Stranglers and The Clash were all on the bill in a single year in 1976.

Who owns the Roundhouse?
The building lay largely empty until it was purchased for £6m in 1996 by the Norman Trust led by the philanthropist Torquil Norman. In 1998 he set up the Roundhouse Trust and led its redevelopment, with a board of trustees which included musicians Bob Geldof and Suggs, and filmmaker Terry Gilliam.

Opening in 1847, the Roundhouse was justly celebrated as a marvellous feat of civil engineering. But it served as a repair and maintenance shed for less than two decades before the rapid evolution of railway technology rendered it obsolete.
Is the Roundhouse seated or standing?
All events in July and August 2021 are seated. From September 2021, each area of the auditorium has a fixed capacity and therefore it is not possible to move from one ticket area to another.
