I had this exact same problem with my 2001 Toyota Sequoia. After doing lots of research, and running my own diagnostics, I located the source of the problem. Turns out that the Wheel Speed Sensor is causing the problem that causes the VSC Trac and ABS lights to come on.

2001 Sequoia VSC Trac Problems…. My wife had told me once or twice about a problem she was having with her Sequoia. She said the “VSC Trac” light and the the “Trac Off” light had come on and that the car had slid on the road. I took the vehicle out and could not make it do as she described. Click to expand… Check Engine light was not on. The dealer charged me $50 to check it and came up with code C1363, which was the brake pedal force switch. I just installed the booster a few days ago and so far no trouble with VSC but I have not driven it too much yet. Thanks for the info.

This sounds like an ECU problem, it’s a known problem on the older cars, but Toyota won’t recognize it for a recall. They are very expensive to fix, about $1500-$2000 to at the dealer and it is a safety hazard for it not to be working as you found out.

Why is my Toyota Sequoia VSC Trac not working?

If it is that may be what they did because the constant cutback sucks in the snow. auto zone will run that code for free. I had a sinilar issue with my 02 a few years ago. Every once in awhile both VSC and the the other light with the truck and slide marks would illuminate and stay that way until I turned the truck off and then restarted.

Why do the VSC and Trac Lights Come On?

The VSC and TRAC lights come on with any of the others, either Brake, ABS or Check Engine, they are just disabled by the computer if there is an issue with one of the other systems. Have the CEL code pulled, likely a O2 sensor if you haven’t replaced them recently. Having the same problem.

Is the VSC off VSC Trac brake problem solved?

The ’03 has been running fine for about a week and then the VSC OFF, VSC, and ABS lights came on at once while it was parked. There were no problems with driveability but it was annoying to see those lights on. I researched the recall and found out the dealership (not near me) completed the recall action less than 2 months ago.
