Why does my fuel cap lock not work?
Register or Log In now! My fuel cap lid lock actuator recently stopped working and the fuel lid wouldn’t close. While the offending part, the actuator itself is only ~$35, Audi will tell you you need to change the whole hinge assembly and that the assembly always breaks.

Gas BBQ to heat up a small flathead screwdriver, and pulling the flap as open as i could, i managed to melt just the one tab on the actuator without damaging the flap or paintwork. Keyhole surgery ! The flap sprang open, no damage except for the actuator which can be replaced.

Inside the panel is a black outer cable coming from the direction of the petrol flap and turning downwards . Inside this outer cable is a wire from a solenoid somewhere below to a pin which locks the petrol flap .
