How to get constant 12 volt power from trailer wiring?
Since a few have asked exactly what we are trying to accomplish…We are in development of a Plug-N-Play wire harness that T’s off the factory 7 PIN to run the 3rd Brake light for Truck Cap installations. We are also pulling power out of the 7 PIN to power the Dome Light, or other aux lighting, Bed Lighting, etc.
Is there no power to my trailer plug?

Why is my 7 way trailer not connected?
It can sense when a trailer is connected based on the voltage draw so it won’t sent a signal for 12V when using some testers, especially LED testers because there isn’t enough of a power draw. The system requires a power draw on the 7-way and then holding the brake pedal for about 3 seconds until your dash registers “trailer connected”.
How can I tell if my trailer has no power?
Solid on Pin 3 and since you say you have the 12v feed connected under the hood then pin 4 should be light as well. If these test ok but you have no lights with the trailer connected then you have a ground issue. A good test is to take a jumper cable and connect it between the truck frame and the trailer frame.
Is the trailer plug constant 12V still working?
I used a test light and can find my signals and lights but the red wire has now power either when the ignition is off or on. I had a quick look under the hood at the fuses and they all seem good, I checked the one that said trailer trun signals and its all good. Am i missing something?

This is where you should start. Connect your test light to a good ground source, a clean, not rusted bolt head will work. Now turn on the emergency flashers and parking lights. Solid on Pin 3 and since you say you have the 12v feed connected under the hood then pin 4 should be light as well.

You say no power for anything so I assume no turn signals or running lights. Are you testing at the plug with your test light? This is where you should start. Connect your test light to a good ground source, a clean, not rusted bolt head will work.
Where to plug in 12V trailer tow battery?
If yours are empty like mine were, go get two relays and plug them in. Then get a 30A Maxi Fuse and plug it into position 16 in the under hood fuse box. 16=Trailer Tow Battery Charge. This should give you power to your orange wire (switched 12v) on your 7 pin trailer harness.
