So I have a 2012 Duramax. The DEF fluid got low. It read 200 miles remaining. So I put more DEF fluid in. It held 1.5 gallons. Which is not enough to fill the tank on that. Still reads 200 miles remaining.

When does Def combine with NOx exhaust fluid?
The answer is yes and no. The temperature at which DEF combines with NOx exhaust right out of the cylinder head with the valves wide open is between 1400-1600 F. The chemical reaction takes place at much hotter temperatures than on a hot sunny day.
