Why is there a clunking noise when I shift from Park to reverse?
There is a clunking noise when I shift from park to reverse and vice versa. It just happens randomly. It just got serviced with ATF just a week ago. What could be the cause and what should I do?

Whenever I shift into drive or reverse from park, there is an extremely loud clunk/bang when the gear engages. Should this be a completely silent process? Any ideas on what the issue may be?

Just bought the new 2019 Hybrid Rav4. I suppose there was so much background noise in the dealership that I didn’t notice that when I put the car in reverse there is a buzzing/humming sound. It stops when I shift the gear back to drive.

The CV joints might be worn and need a new boot or even replacement of the entire part. Or it could also be your motor mounts. The motor mounts could be worn and your engine isn’t well secured to the crossmember, causing the clunking sound. Have these parts checked, too.

Reverse in hybrids is electric only. You might as well hear MG in the back doing its job. It does whir some… This is the hybrid forum ! And the noise, as I said, also comes from the front, when in drive. Maybe it is louder in the back ?
