Can a Vortec be swapped for a TBI?
TBI to Vortec Swap! I have a 95′ K1500 (tbi 5.7) with no motor or trans. I also have a 1999 Vortec 5.7 motor and tranny out of the same truck just different years. whats the easiest way to put the vortec into the tbi truck?

Another good reasonably priced set of heads that will work nicely without special intakes on a TBI motor is a set of Summit Racing aluminum heads. Great flow number and stock TBI or aftermarket TBI intakes will bolt right on saving you some money. 50 state legal and better flow numbers than vortec heads.

Modify the throttle body. This one pretty cheap but does require removing the throttle body. UTIMATE MODS . Stock 42mm TBI units flow around 450cfm which if you look at http://www.carburetion.com/calc.asp a stock 350 even with a cam upgrade to increase the powerband to 5500 rpms isn’t going to use much if any more than that stock throttle body.

It took me about a week to figure out what to do, but when i did its easy as 123. 1.Find the plug that used to plug into the Distributor and lead to the PCM. 3. Take Wire and run it into the TACH position on your HEI Distributor.
Can a TBI 95 talk to a Vortec 96?
There are some decent online wiring diagrams to double check the pin out arrangement to make sure the computer can talk to your engine using the existing wiring. You may need the entire wiring harness. The computer for the 99 is a completely different protocol from the 95. The 95 runs on OBD1 and the 96 through today is OBD2.
