How do you check a spark on a Harley?
How to Test a Harley Davidson Ignition Coil
- Turn off the motorcycle. Allow the engine to become cool to the touch before proceeding.
- Disconnect, by hand, the two spark plug wires from the coil.
- Set the ohmmeter to read resistance on the “Rx1” setting.
- Set the ohmmeter to read resistance on the “Rx1000” setting.
Why is my spark plug still not working?
Still no spark If the magnets are good, it’s gapped even reasonably close, the small ground wire from the base is disconnected, you’ve not got rust or corrosion between the coil and the mounting posts, and you’ve tried at least two new spark plugs (sometimes even new ones are bad), then you have another bad coil.
Why is my starter not working on my Harley?
That black wire with the red tracer should be sending 12v to the starter relay. Be sure that this wire is not damaged or pinched anywhere in its travel. This will be more common when wires have been routed through the bars, or switch housings/switches have been changed. Don’t forget to use your multimeter inside the switch housings too.

Just installed 12″ bars and cam plate. Buttoned it all up and tried to start it. Motor turns over fine, however no spark. Pulled the plug wires, put another plug in wire and no spark. Took tank back off, no pinched wires. Tested B terminal of coil plug and getting 12 + Volts. Removed power commander, hook bike back to ecm, no spark.
What causes a Harley Davidson to not start?
Open up the nose cone end and see if it is just really dirty in there which can happen if the seal is leaking oil. If not, check that the signal wires from the ignition wire to the coil are not corroded at the coil, or damaged where they come out of the nose cone.

Can a Dyna Super Glide crank but not start?
