What is Smecta medicine used for?
Symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea in children and infants in addition to oral rehydration and in adults; Symptomatic treatment of chronic diarrhea; Symptomatic treatment of pain associated to oesophagus and gastroduodenal and colic disease.
Is Smecta OK for diarrhea?
Smecta® (dioctahedral smectite) is an edible natural clay used for the symptomatic treatment of diarrhoea. NPRA has received information from the French National Agency for Medicines and Health Products Safety (ANSM) on the possible risk of lead passing through the blood of treated patients.
How often can you drink Smecta?
Smecta® for adults The average dosage is 3 sachets per day. Depending on diarrhoea severity, the daily dose can be doubled (6 sachets) at the start of the treatment.
What contains Smecta?
Diosmectite is a powder for oral suspension in a sachet, composed of 3.000 g diosmectite, 0.004 g vanillin, 0.007 g sodium saccharin, and 0.749 g glucose monohydrate.
How do you dissolve Smecta?
For Children and infants, dissolve the content of the sachet in the feeding bottle with 50ml of water or mixed with a semi- liquid food, such as broth, compote, puree, baby food. For adults Dissolve the content of the sachet in 500ml of water. When to take it SMECTA®should be taken during the day.
Does Smecta help with IBS?
Patients with IBS-D (diarrhoea-prone IBS) Over-the-counter products such as Smecta which contains alumino-magnesium silicate powder, may provide relief for acute attacks of diarrhoea, but patients should guard against overdosing themselves and causing severe constipation with attendant complications.
Does Smecta help with nausea?
Simple over counter medicine may be helpful in relieving symptoms, such as Immodium, Pectrolyte or Smecta which help ease the diarrhoea. Valoid is good for nausea and vomiting and comes in tablet, syrup and suppository form in case of vomiting.
How much smecta Can I give my baby?
Infant up to 1 yr 2 sachets daily for 3 days then 1 sachet daily. Other indications Adult Ave: 3 sachets daily. Childn >2 yr 2-3 sachets daily, between 1-2 yr 1-2 sachets daily.
