What to do if your tailgate wont lock?
Spray some wd40 or pb blaster on them and work then back and forth like crazy. My truck did the exact same thing and this worked for me. If that doesnt work you can take the handle off and clean everything and relube. I can push the latches in to locking position but the left side is the only side that actually locks.
Which is the only side of the tailgate that will lock?
If you are looking at bed from the back, the left side is the only side that will “lock” when the tailgate is shut. And it BARELY works. I have to shut my tailgate 10 times before it latches..
Why is the tailgate on my GMC truck not working?
GM # 20880357 yea took it apart. the whole handle assembly has rust/dirt deposit all over it.. after cleaning it and re-greasing it, it doesnt work MUCH better…. Im going to order a new one – but not sure what the GM OEM PART NUMBER is?
Why is my boot handle not working properly?
Don’t want to start taking parts off in case it voids the warranty. This happens when, with the car locked, you try to open the boot (maybe to confirm the car is locked). In pulling the handle and then releasing it, the mechanism doesn’t fully return to its home position.

Why are the latches on my tail gate not closing?
If there’s nothing impeding the movement, slowly close the gate until the latches closes up against the latch anchor points (one on each side of the gate). One of these latches may be stuck in the closed position or partially closed causing them to not allow you to shut your gate.
