What does it mean when your truck has no forward gears?

What does it mean when your truck has no forward gears?

Suddenly, you have no forward gears in your vehicle. No signs of transmission issues before this. Your truck works strong in reverse, but no forward at all. It just feels like you’re in neutral. I read a lot of posts that scared me about how the planets and other expensive sounding parts of my automatic transmission were likely dead.

Why are there no forward gears on my 4L60E?

Long story short, old transmission is shot, new transmission that was a fresh build, will not engage any forward gears. Reverse works perfectly. I was wondering what I could look for in the valve body area that could cause this, before re pulling this transmission for a third time to look for burnt up clutches inside.

Why does my car only go in reverse and not forward?

If your fluid is too low, then your transmission may not be able to build up enough hydraulic pressure to shift properly into gears. Automatic transmissions use pressured hydraulic fluid to change gears typically via a car’s computer which activates the transmission solenoid.

How does a car change gears in an automatic transmission?

Automatic transmissions use pressured hydraulic fluid to change gears typically via a car’s computer which activates the transmission solenoid. This directs the fluid into the valve body which engages the desired gear.

How can I get my truck to move forward?

I was able to get my truck to move forward by removing fuse 19 under the hood (TRANS IGN 01). When you remove the fuse, it will force full hydraulic pressure and you will get what I believe is 3rd gear to move forward. This can at least let you limp the truck around to where you can work on it.

Are there external solenoids for the 6L80E transmission?

The 6L80E transmission has no external solenoids to replace so disregard that cause when you read it on other forums. The valve body has two pieces, upper and lower and is held together with a series of bolts that are metric. Between the two pieces is a “plate” that allows fluid to move between the upper and lower parts of the valve body.

How to reverse a silveradosierra 6L80E reverse only connection?

First, pull down the white tab on the under side of the pan. This releases the connection above. Then, push out the other white tab on the connector above the pan. The way it works is that the white tabs keep the coupler firm so that it cant move. You need to release the white tabs, then rotate it upward and it will eventually pull out.

Can You reuse a gasket on a Silverado 6L80E?

Drop the pan, drain the oil into a bucket or catch, and remove the pan. Check for metal – mine was actually very clean which only reaffirmed my thought that there was no serious mechanical damage to the transmission. Save the gasket, it is reusable. Set the pan aside for later, you won’t need it again until the project is over.

Why are there no reverse gears on my 4L60E?

4L60E has forward gears, but no reverse This is also a pretty common issue with the 4L60E. More than likely the reverse input snap ring has sheared or snapped off. It can also be caused by the sun shell breaking.

Are there any reverse gears in my Trailblazer?

No reverse or any drive gears Hi Im new here but hoping to get some useful information that will shine light on this situation without swapping or rebuilding the transmission. My wife has a 2004 trailblazer , about 6 months ago I replaced tran fluids and filter.

Why does my Ford Taurus not shift or engage?

But the interesting thing was I found a little known blog that said, disconnect the battery (clear the codes) and the transmission would still kick into gear, even when the transmission fluid was low. Evidently the torque converter, if it doesn’t catch too well or not at all, sends a message somewhere to not try at all.

Can a car drive forward when in neutral?

The fluid is full and not burnt. It will drive forward when in reverse and in neutral. I turned the engine off and checked neutral, it was not in gear but tried to go forward as soon as I started the engine. I have never seen this!

Can a 1986 Blazer go into reverse or neutral?

1986 S10 blazer automatic transmission won’t go into reverse OR neutral! It goes fwd in both reverse and neutral. It goes into park just fine. The fluid is full and not burnt. It will drive forward when in reverse and in neutral. I turned the engine off and checked neutral, it was not in gear but tried to go forward as soon as I started the engine.

Why does my Transman say I need a new transmission?

You need a new transmission. Transman might know the most likely cause on your particular transmission but it seems quite certain that a forward clutch is dragging or a planetary has seized. “I turned the engine off and checked neutral, it was not in gear but tried to go forward as soon as I started the engine.”

What should I do if I lost all forward gears?

Was able to limp it along in first to get back to work and park the truck, so it will inch along in first forward. Reverse works great though, no issues at all and you’d think there wasn’t anything wrong. Pulled the pan today and didn’t find any metal shavings at all in the bottom.

What kind of transmission does a 1999 4×4 have?

Hey guys… looking for a little help on my transmission issues. Early 1999 4×4 w/ 215,000 and auto (4R100). Bought it with a supposed rebuilt transmission, but apparently it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. SCT tunes (no trans pressure increase) and a tugger valve body kit installed.

Is there a transmission problem in my car?

There were no advance signs of any transmission problems. No slippage or burnt smell. There are no signs of any fluid leakage.I feel that the car is too young to have transmission problems and there were no warnings. That makes me think that it is a part failure. Is it a parts problem like a TCM or a transmission problem. My car has 116000 miles.

How does a MTD transmission work in reverse?

When I turn the drive pully by hand on the bench and shifted between neutral, forward and reverse it looked fine. Trying to decide what parts to replace, gears, differential or what. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks Take it back apart. Refer to the image below, or better yet, get your free copy of the online manual from MTD. Look at items # 15.

Why is my car not shifting into reverse?

This is large, maze-like component that directs the flow of hydraulic fluid to the valves. This is what allows a car to smoothly shift gears whenever the situation calls for it. In case of a bad transmission valve body, you may experience delayed shifting into reverse or simply nothing happening after shifting in reverse and stepping on the gas.

What to do if your gears don’t work?

Dump the fluid, drop the pan, and 5 bolts remove the servo cover/housing. Pull the servo out, take off the E ring and remove pin from servo, then put in new pin and reinstall. Did you find the recommended reading relevant to this discussion?

Why does my car reverse but not go forward?

The gear cable could be stretched further than the normal length and requires adjusting. The failure of some internal components can be the cause too. The car will reverse but not go forward because of worn out solenoids, clutches, or gears.

What to do when your transmission won’t shift?

You may also need to upgrade to a different type of fluid if you find that your transmission problems are happening during cold weather, or if you are using a fluid not originally recommended for your vehicle. Listen for gear clashing and grinding. Grinding gears will result in a grating sound as you shift between gears.
