What kind of car squeals when the brakes are applied?

Annoying squeak/squeal from car but stops when brakes are applied. Its a 6 yr old merc b class and it squeals all the time until you touch the brakes. Garage has checked the pistons and wheel bearings and said they were fine.

Why do my tires squeak on the road?

It’s not unusual for some road surfaces to make your tires roar or hiss. Fresh blacktop and other road finishes may stick a bit to tires or be porous, causing a slick sound or a hollow, rolling noise. Gravel, cobblestone, and brick roads, with their uneven surfaces, make tires crunch and bump.

How can I stop the squeal from my car caliper?

Some pads have anti vibration stuff stuck to the back of the pad, or you can get greases (copper slip, mintex cera-tec etc) that add some damping to stop the vibration making a noise. This link (not embedded the image as it’s on someone else’s forum) shows where I’d be greasing on a typical car caliper set up.

Why does my car tire make a noise when I roll it up?

You may hear a “sticky” repeating noise coming from one tire. It sounds like a paint roller rolling back and forth over tacky paint. The sound may be more prominent when you have the windows rolled down, or when you’re near a building or wall that reflects the sound back to you. The solution is a fresh tire.

What to do about squeaking wheels at low speed?

Tracking check/adjust won’t fix the squeak but there’s no harm in getting it done because any subsequent brake work won’t affect the tracking- and it definitely sounds like a brake issue to me. I have experienced, in the past, squeaky wheels when a wheelbearing was on the way out.

Why does my rear wheel make a squeaking noise?

Just using the brakes can warp the discs too. While the brakes are being inspected, it would make sense to check for any play (in any direction other than round and round) in the corresponding wheel bearing too. Also spin just that tire by hand in a quiet environment, listen carefully for any unusual noises.
