Why does my air in my car come on and off?
If the compressor turns on then instantly stops it could be either you are lacking freon or there is too much in the line. If you over charge most compressors will turn off if it notices the pressure is above a certain limit. When it gets hot outside it also causes the pressure to rise which can cause this issue.

Could be a multitude of things and I’d bet they’re electronic in nature. You have two air mix control dampers; one for the driver’s side and one for the passenger side that are independently controlled and operated by electric servo motors. It sounds like your a/c is operating fine since you get cold air on the passenger side.
