Looks like I need to replace/rebuild the Allison 1000 transmission in my 05 LLY truck. I understand the 06 model has a number of improvements including 6 speeds. If I go the replacement route, can I install the 6 speed version? If the answer is a YES, is it a direct replacement or will I need a new wire harness and other parts?

Click to expand… The trucks back to 01 were physically capable of having 6 speeds from the factory as far as the transmission internals go. The limiting factor is the valve body. You would need a valve body that is designed to run a 6 speed transmission to unlock the second over drive gear.
