How to minimize the Clunk with Surge brakes?

I minimize the clunk by slowly accelerating. Electric brakes on a boat trailer are not recommended but some have done it. Electric over Hydraulic (EoH) are the recommend upgrade but definitely some cost and maintenance involved. Check if the reservoir is filled with brake fluid….bleed the brakes.

What does jarring Clunk with Surge brakes feel like?

About half way home (225 miles of a 530 mile trip), I noticed there was a loud clunk and a rather unpleasant jarring of the whole vehicle/trailer rig when starting forward after coming to a stop. Kind of like how a loose receiver hitch feels, but much more exaggerated.
