Why does my Toyota Rav 4 make a whining noise?
My 2008 Rav 4 AWD emits a whining sound when I am slowly travelling between 38 and 44 kmh (23 and 27 mph). It could be an axle noise, but I was wondering if it could be generated by other systems, such as wheels, brakes, engine components or even air conditioning.

So I have a tranny noise in my 2009 I4, and so does my friend who has a 2011 also I4. It comes on exactly as you say, at 23 to 25 mph, under light acceleration only. It is more of a “whirly” sound than a whine, but I guess it is a type of whine. It is almost imperceptible. Wife can’t hear it at all, and it’s her car, so good!
