Why is my GM V8 lifter not working?
This may be the result of an AFM (Active Fuel Management for displacement-on-demand) lifter that unlocks as soon as the engine is started or one that is mechanically collapsed/stuck. This TSB applies to the following vehicles:
What to do with a ticking GM V8 lifter?
1. Place the affected lifter in a plastic bag and label the location it came from. 2. Remove the oil filter, disable the anti-drainback valve with a screwdriver or awl and drain the oil from the filter into a CLEAN GLASS bottle. A clean and dry Snapple iced tea bottle works very well for this.
What causes the lifter on a GMC misfire to fail?
Mainly the 5.3L engines with AFM (active fuel management). The AFM lifters tend to fail, and stick or collapse. Keeping good oil, and plenty of it in the engine, is KEY. These engines also have a bad oil consumption issue, which GM say is “in their specs”.

Can a cam shaft be replaced with lifters?
I’m sure that there are a lot of people that sell parts that would disagree, but even the fsm makes no recommendation of replacing a cam shaft with lifters. For one or more sticky lifters yes but if the cam end of lifter is badly worn away your cam lobe is also.
What kind of lifters does a Dodge Ram use?
Maybe lots of fraigile lifter parts because of the 4 cyl/8 cyl mode. ordered redline $50… but i guess if it shuts it up… We guna find out Burla likes this. whats your guys opinion on redline oil and what 5w20 or 5w30 for the hemi? does this really help? i have heard people say it works just kinda mad cause its all new parts lol…
What should I do if I replace my lifters only?
That is why you use break in oil and run a new cam in at a specific RPM for several min on the first startup. The lifters even have a slight dome to them so they rotate in the bore. New lifters may mate up with the old cam and wear in fine. Most times they will.
