Can you drive a Chevy truck in 4WD?

The truck definitely drives the REAR wheels in 4wd and in 4wd Auto, but not in 2WD. I can drive it in Auto and it powers the rear but not the front unless the rear slips (which it doesn’t on dry pavement, but I tested it in gravel etc.) In 4WD it binds to much to drive. I have stopped driving it and will pull the transfer case out and open it up.

If it is going into reverse, but at the wrong spot, it’s an indication of a damaged (but not all the way broken) shift linkage.
