Where does the oil leak come from on a Renault Megane?
At least in the last 16 years i’ve been working on renaults of all kinds i’ve not come accross a k4m/k4j type engine just decide to blow its head gasket without any other factor involved, i.e a hole in the radiator or a burst hose. Thanks for the replies guys the leak was indeed coming from the oilway on the cylinder head.

I’ve replaced a head gasket on an engine where only the water in the radiator was contaminated with oil. There was no evidence of water in the oil. That being said there is another aspect to look at. Engine oil usually gets very hot and will boil off any water that seeps into the oil system.
Is it easy to replace the seals on a megane?

Although the engine block and cylinder head gasket may appear to be okay, even a minute crack could cause this kind of cross-contamination. If not already done, a pressure test should be carried out to confirm that neither is the cause of the problem. If not, the likely cause is a faulty oil cooler that is part of the oil filter housing.

Hi again, oil in the water doesnt mean its the head gasket, as the oil runs at a higher presure than the water it will be forced from oil into water rather than the other way round, like i said in my prev post, there are oilways and waterways on the thermostat end of the head and thermostat housings are common.
