How long is the CBYX program?
CBYX for Young Professionals is a yearlong fellowship for Americans and Germans, ages 18½–24, that is funded by the German Bundestag and the U.S. Congress through the U.S. Department of State, under the authority of the Fulbright-Hays Act of 1961, as amended.

How do Germans study high school?
Visa: If you are an EU/EEA citizen you do not need a study visa. You can attend both public and private schools to receive the Abitur degree. For that, you need to attend the last 2 years of high school and successfully pass the Abitur exams. Afterward, you are allowed to apply for Bachelor’s programs in Germany.
How do you become a CBYX?
To be considered for the 2022-23 CBYX scholarship for high school, you must be:
- A U.S. citizen.
- Aged 15 to 18 ½ on August 1 of the program departure year.
- A current high school student at the time of application, with a GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
Can you do NSLI twice?
For 2022-23 programs, applicants may submit one common application for NSLI-Y, FLEX Abroad, and YES Abroad, allowing them to apply to one or more of these programs simultaneously.

Launched in 2019, Virtual NSLI-Y is a 10-week, online, beginner-level foreign language and culture experience, in line with the ACTFL World Readiness Standards. Virtual NSLI-Y also introduces participants to the people and culture of places where the target language is spoken.
When is the dome of the Bundestag closed?
The rooftop terrace and the dome are closed all day on 24 December and from 16.00 hrs onwards on 31 December. The dome will be closed to visitors from 13 to 17 September and from 11 to 16 October 2021 to allow cleaning and maintenance work to be carried out. The roof terrace can still be visited when the dome is closed.

The roof terrace and dome of the Reichstag Building can be visited by members of the public, and offer spectacular views of the parliamentary and government district and Berlin’s sights. Admission is free; advance registration required.
Where do CBYX participants go to study German?
CBYX participants spend eight weeks studying German at the Carl Duisberg Centrum language school in one of three locations: Cologne, Radolfzell, or Saarbrücken.
