In the early Duramax engines, there was a separate Fuel Injector Control Module (FICM), located on the front passenger side of the engine. The FICM was required to provide the high voltage, high current drive for the fuel injectors. As both injector and ECM technology advanced, the FICM became unnecessary.
How to make sure fuel injectors are receiving the correct voltage?
Step 1: Make sure the key is off. Step 2: Remove injector wiring harness. Step 3: Set DVOM to measure ohms. Step 4: Test resistance with DVOM. Place the meter leads on the prongs inside the connector, making sure that they are not touching each other. Step 5: Repeat with all injectors. Step 1: Turn the car on.
What is the code for a fuel injector failure?
If you are using a generic (not vehicle manufacturer specific) code reader; then you can expect to see codes beginning with P02. For example, a fault with an injector in cylinder one would give a code of P0201.
Do you need to flash your ECM for 2005?
Your ECM will need to be flashed accordingly. Do not try to use a 2005 or later accelerator pedal mounted APPS with an ECM flashed for 2003 to 2004. You must purchase the correct pedal to match the ECM programming. The ECM pin outs change from 2003-2005 which makes the APPS sensors non-interchangeable. See page 17 and 21 for more information.

Locate the FICM_MPWR parameter on your scan tool. Cycle the ignition off and immediately back on. During the time that the glow plug light on the dash remains on the FICM_MPWR reading must not fall under 45 volts – if it does, the FICM may require replacement.
