If pushing on the brake will illuminate the signal lights then turning on the signal lights has got to illum. the brake lights NOW where this short is that’s what you or a repair shop will have to find! It is going to be at the rear light or wiring as the two circuits do not pass through a common switch or circuit.

I suspect that you have a broken wire in the trunk that will cause this = bad ground. There is a connector in the rear wiring harness near the rear seat that gets corroded that will cause this too.
