Why is my AC compressor not kicking on and off?
You will want to have the unit examined to look for signs of a blown fuse, a tripped circuit breaker, a broken thermostat, or dirty air filters. Dirty or clogged filters commonly make AC compressors stop working. When it’s 110 degrees outside, don’t set your thermostat at 65. It just isn’t designed for that.

I have never been able to replace just the clutch on a A/C compressor on a Peterbilt. Peterbilt always says it can not be done. There are other trucks that run a different compressor that you can do it on. I had the same problem last year on mine and was told to replace breakers and sensors, never worked.

I jumped both switches and pressed the “AC On” button – clutch did not engage. I used that cheapie pressure guage – it connects to the fitting on the low side tube. It read about 9psi. The “low range” on the dial goes to 25psi, then the “full range” goes 25psi to 45psi. Then there is an “alert” and a “danger” range above that.
Why is the pulley not engaging the clutch?
Turn the air conditioning controls to MAX AC and start the engine. Then look at the front of the compressor clutch. Both the pulley and the clutch should be spinning. That means the clutch has properly engaged with the pulley. If only the pulley is turning, but the clutch disc isn’t, there’s a problem somewhere in the system.
