Why is there oil in my air filter on my motorcycle?
Oil in the air filter is an indication that there’s a blow-by problem. The first culprit to check is the PCV valve. If it is blocked or only semi-functional, replacing the valve and cleaning the system is usually all that’s necessary to fix the situation.

There are two large drain plugs on the bottom of the motor. The filter screen is behind the little cover in the right engine case. There is also a sump filter that you could take out and clean/inspect. Any motorcycle specific oil should be fine. A lot of people run Shell Rotella 15w40 because the man Michael “Mercury” Morse used to recommend it.

What should I do if my engine oil keeps blowing into the air filter?
Purchase an engine flush formula from your local parts store and follow the directions. In general you will pour the formula into the oil and run the engine for a period of time. Once the engine has been flushed drain the oil and fill it with fresh engine oil. Replace the filter and see if the problem persists.
